In a private consultation with Dr. Anderson, each patient's individual needs are evaluated and the most applicable procedures recommended. Considerations are the patient's age, hair texture, color, amount and pattern of hair loss, and realistic goals of restoration. Procedures take place in Dr. Anderson's own surgical suite which is AAAHC accredited for maximum safety and hygiene. Patients are given local anesthetic and may be placed under IV sedation. He is assisted by a highly trained and caring staff.
For correction of a simple receding hairline, micro-grafting and follicular units may be recommended. A strip of hair-bearing scalp is taken from the back of the head. The strip is divided into tiny groups of hair follicles and inserted into tiny slits in the scalp. Care is taken to place grafts in such a way that hair grows in the same, natural direction. Towards the hair line, grafts containing only one or two hairs are used for a natural look. This is called mini- and micro-grafting and follicular unit grafting. Reduction of the bald area may be done with a procedure called alopecia reduction. Since Dr. Anderson is a board certified surgeon, he is able to offer this very effective treatment to his patients, unlike many other hair transplant clinics.
After surgery a dressing may be applied overnight. If stitches are used, they are usually removed in 10 days. Medication will be provided for any discomfort. Newly transplanted hair may fall out after the procedure. This is completely normal. New hair will begin growing in 6 to 12 weeks. Results may vary in different individuals, but nearly all patients report great satisfaction with their new hair growth and experience increased self-esteem and confidence
